The Friday Five

Your weekly dose of weekend adventure:

1. Celebrate Pride: This weekend in San Antonio is PRIDE weekend so watch the parade, come to the festival, or celebrate on the strip. There is something for everyone!

2. Listen to River City Stories: Check out this play that uses real stories from San Antonio to pay tribute to the history and places that shaped San Antonio history including Tacoland, Earl Ables, and Los Padrinos. You won’t want to miss this alternate version of San Antonio history.

3. Enjoy a Cool Treat: Summer is officially here so why not spend the weekend exploring all the best cool treats? There is no better way to beat the heat!

4. Hang with the SA Poet Laureates: Octavio Quintanilla, San Antonio’s 2018–2020 Poet Laureate, will give a brief lecture on his work followed by a conversation with outgoing Poet Laureate Jenny Browne. Quintanilla is the author of the poetry collection If I Go Missing. His poetry, fiction, translations, and photography have appeared in various magazines and journals over the past few years.

5.  Cook Up Something at The Botanical Garden: People in some areas of the world are known for living a long and healthy life, to a large degree from their local diets. We explore these places’ cuisines and celebrate delicious, healthy recipes through multi-course demonstration and tasting. We’ll harvest from our own garden as well!
